What is a DNS Transfer?

With an external domain transfer or a Domain Name System (DNS) transfer, you can keep your domain with an initial provider, but point it to a different set of servers that hold your website files and E-mail accounts.

You can purchase a hosting plan at a company and change the DNS settings so your domain uses the another hosting provider's DNS. The hosting provider's DNS will already be configured to point to the right servers for your website files and E-mail, but you have to "tell" the domain which DNS servers to use.

Please note:
It takes 24-48 hours for the change of new name server (DNS) addresses to be recognised worldwide.
