How do I backup/import my 1&1 Exchange account into Outlook?

It is possible to backup your 1&1 Exchange account through Outlook by exporting the account to a .pst file. This file can later be imported through Microsoft Outlook. Below are the steps on how to export and import an Exchange account.

Export or Backup Your E-mail

The steps to backup your e-mail by exporting it to a .pst account will vary depending on your version of Outlook. Please visit the Export or backup email, contacts, and calendar to an Outlook .pst file - Microsoft Office Support page and then click on your version of Outlook to expand the steps.

You can choose to export your entire mailbox (recommended) or select only certain e-mail folders you, contacts, caledars, etc. for the export.

Import Your E-mail Backup

Again, the steps to impoprt your e-mail backup will vary depending on your version of Outlook. Please visit the Import email, contacts, and calendar from an Outlook .pst file - Microsoft Office Support page and then click on your version of Outlook to expand the steps.

During the import process, you can choose to import the file to the same folder names, which will sync (upload) your mailbox with the 1&1 mail servers, or you can choose to import all the data in a separate folder, which will only be accessible from Outlook on your current computer.

The time it takes to import depends on the size of the import file and how you chose to import the data. If importing the data into the same folder names, it will likely take a longer period of time until all of the imported data is also uploaded and synced to the 1&1 mail servers. Once completely synced, the data will be available from the Outlook Web Access or other machines/devices that have access to the exchange account.
