Restore a Mozilla Thunderbird Backup

For customers using a Windows operating system

Learn how to restore a backup created with Mozilla Thunderbird.

Before you begin, you will need to have Mozilla Thunderdbird installed on your computer as well as Create a Backup of your 1&1 E-mail Account with Mozilla Thunderbird if you have not already.

Please note:
Make sure Mozilla Thunderbird is closed prior to restoring your backup.
Step 1
Press the Windows key + R to open the Windows Run prompt, type thunderbird.exe -profilemanager, and click OK.

Click Create Profile...

Click Next.

Enter a new profile name and click Choose Folder...

Open the Profiles folder from the backup location, click the name of the profile folder displayed (generally ending in .default), and click Select Folder. Choose Profile Folder window

Click Finish.

Click the new profile created, make sure Use the selected profile without asking at startup is checked (unless otherwise desired), and click Start Thunderbird.

Thunderbird will open in the same state that it was at the time you performed the backup.
