Manually Set Up E-mail with Microsoft Outlook

Learn how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016 for use with your 1&1 Mail Basic account using the IMAP Protocol.

Follow the instructions below to sync your 1&1 Mail Basic account with Outlook. Before you begin, you will need to have Outlook already installed on your computer and a 1&1 Mail Basic account created.

On your computer, click the Start Menu button and select Control Panel.

If using Windows Vista, Windows 7 or above, type Mail into the search box at the top-right of the Control Panel window to quickly find the Mail icon. Then, click it (or double-click it if necessary).

Click the E-mail Accounts button.

Under the E-mail tab, click the New button.

Select Manual setup or additional server types and click Next.
Please note:
For Outlook 2007 users, you will instead have to select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP > Next. Then, you will be able to select Manually configure server settings or additional server types > Next.

Select the POP or IMAP type of account and click Next.
Please note:
For Outlook 2007/2010 users, select Internet Email > Next.

Enter your name and your 1&1 Mail Basic address (A). This is the name that will appear when others receive your e-mail.

Select IMAP from the Account Type drop-down box. Enter imap.1and1.co.uk as the Incoming mail server and auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk as the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) (B).

Enter your full 1&1 Mail Basic address as the User Name and the e-mail account's password (C). Check the box for Remember password if you do not want to enter your password every time you send or receive e-mails from this account.

Then, click the More Settings button.

Go to the Outgoing Server tab from the top of the new window that opens and check the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.

Next, go to the Advanced tab.

Use the drop-down menus on the right to select the encryption types SSL for the Incoming Server (IMAP) and TLS for the Outgoing Server (SMTP). By doing this, the server port numbers should be entered automatically, but make sure they are 993 for the Incoming Server and 587 for the Outgoing Server.

Once completed, click OK.

Click the Next button to test all of the settings you entered.

If the test fails, go through the previous steps and double-check all of your settings. If the test is successful, click the Close button.

Click Finish to complete the setup process.

You may now launch Outlook from the Windows Start menu to begin sending and receiving your e-mails.
